San Diego known as America’s Finest City is also known as a dog friendly city as well. In fact there are people who actually base their decision to move to San Diego based the fact that they have so many opportunities to play socially with their dogs.
With the Southern California weather, dog beaches, yappy hours, dog parks, trails and parks, and outdoor dog friendly restaurants, dog owners can choose a new activity every day of the week that can be shared with their best fury friend. Dogs are always up for going on any adventure. Unfortunately, there are times some dogs are socially inept limiting the places you can take your dog.
The great news is there are simple things you can do to socialize your dog and join all the fun here in San Diego. It’s a matter of learning how to show your dog how to act and taking your dog to an environment where learning appropriate behavior is encouraged.
Dog Speak
Dogs communicate in a much different way than we humans do. It is in many cases where the breakdown comes in “appropriate behavior” while out in a social situation with other dogs. The biggest mistake professional trainers see happen is people telling there dog “no”, “stop that”, “get out of there”, or “leave it”, but never actually showing their dog what to do.
It’s a very easy habit to fall into since for the most part this is how we as humans communicate so we learn to expect it of our dogs.
Learn to Speak Dog While Socializing Your Dog
Dogs learn by repetition and by being shown what to do. They usually catch on quickly once their human starts communicating in that way. It is a concept any dog owner can take on and change the relationship with their own dog allowing for a deeper bonding and the ability to do way more fun things together.
Check out these options available at The Collared Scholar here in San Diego! If you have a dog that has needs in any of these areas this is your bridge to having more fun with your dog and enjoying all the dog friendly opportunities San Diego has to offer.

“Learn to Speak Dog”. This is so important! Our dogs are not mind readers no matter how clever we think they are. They require patient repetition but when they finally ‘get it’ they get it good!
