San Diego is truly the America’s Finest City and when it comes to dog friendly it measures up as well. Several San Diego businesses including My Perfect Pet in Poway, Wag’n Tails in Coronado, The Buried Bone in Poway and Collared Scholar with several training schools in the county, are offering their services to make the “Bail out a Dog Program” a successful way to add your new best friend to your family.
It’s a great opportunity for those who have been looking to adopt a dog and add that special relationship in their lives but find the initial adoption fees that come with with it to be more than they expected. The program allows people who really have the time and space to give a rescue dog the attention and love they need the help to get started on the right paw.
The Collared Scholar has been one of the spear head to this program is ready to kick off their Animal Welfare Outreach Center. With the current state of the economy, lay offs and foreclosures abound, pets are feeling the crunch. Homeless pets are inundating the shelters at an alarming rate and many will never make it out alive. Rescue groups are at critical capacity and cannot keep pace with the constant flood of homeless pets reaching out to them for help. In San Diego alone, there are hundreds of dog rescue and animal welfare groups that are struggling to stay afloat as they try desperately to help the staggering number of homeless pets in the shelters. In an effort to help the fight, the trainers of The Collared Scholar are opening a new Animal Rescue Outreach Center designed to offer low cost training to dog owners while raising funds for non-profit rescue and animal welfare groups.

This is a cool concept that likens dogs in Humane Societies to those in jail. I love the idea because it gets the point across in a new way. It appears to offer assistance that is sort of like a half-way house–help with the adaptation to a new family member. Cool idea; best of luck.
There have been school fund raisers and community events with this sort of concept behind them. It’s so great to a see a community of businesses coming together in an effort to help dogs find a forever home. Everyone wags more over it!
We added a GSP to our family about 18 months ago and we’ve never looked back! We weren’t sure we were “dog people” before, but we know we are now! 🙂
